Automobiles in German Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were notified by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
