Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever
The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
